19 June 2020 - COVID-19 update: Easing of restrictions from 11.59 am on Friday 19 June 2020

Funeral and burial services can still be held in the ACT. From 11.59 am on Friday 19 June 2020, indoor and outdoor funerals can have up to 100 people attend, excluding those conducting the service. People in attendance must observe the physical distancing guidelines including having one person per four square metres. Canberra Cemeteries is continuing to work closely with the funeral industry to ensure these requirements are met.

24 March 2020 - COVID-19 Update

Our cemeteries are still open to visitors, for those who wish to visit their loved one’s grave or memorial. Canberra Cemeteries is committed to providing excellent customer service and is operating by phone and email until further notice. Families are encouraged to access these services by phone or online as all necessary arrangements can be made without face-to-face contact.

Our forms are digitally available and can be accessed via the Canberra Cemeteries website under the ‘forms and downloads’ tab.

Families can still hold funerals and burial services in the ACT, following the guidelines of social distancing and with limited numbers indoors. Some chapels are still operating, but at reduced capacity. Some facilities can stream services, however families are encouraged to consider holding the memorial service at a later date, after the burial or cremation. Religious places of worship will be considered on a case by case basis in consultation with the Funeral Director and the Religious leader.

To continue to provide a safe environment for visitors and our team, we encourage everyone to take the recommended precautions, such as social distancing and good hygiene, to protect their health and that of others.
